The Foundation in Law is a comprehensive programme that gives you a strong basic understanding of Law and prepares you to pursue a law degree in university and beyond. It gives you a solid grounding in core legal subjects while developing the skills required to succeed in almost any career. You will learn about the Legal system and Methods, Law of Contract, Law of Tort, Criminal Law, and develop a sound knowledge and understanding of the Law and its institutions, and develop practical legal skills. As English is the legal language, two English subjects have been incorporated into the course. You will learn the legalese required for formal and technical documents, and develop a strong command of English for clear communication, both written and oral. Through experiential learning, you will develop critical thinking and effective communication skills and be able to analyse cases and present your argument for simulated cases in the mock courtroom facility available at ATC.
This intensive foundation programme also prepares you beyond legal matters, covering a variety of modules, such as management, marketing, business studies, and electronic commerce. The Business Studies subject will give you a deep and critical understanding of how business organisations work, which will be complementary to the Law of Contract subject, giving you the bigger picture of how things are interlinked. You will be well-equipped with the practical skills and fundamental knowledge you need, should you decide to start your own law firm later in life, or even to branch out into other careers. The entry requirement for Foundation of Law is at least 5 credits in SPM or O-Level, or pass UEC with at least Grade B in 3 subjects or equivalent.
